Hi Everyone,
What a snowfall this is!!
The meeting tomorrow is cancelled because of this. Let’s stay safe and secure at home tomorrow.
Something you all need to be aware of is that our AGM will take place at the start of our first March meeting on Tuesday, March 11th. We will hold the AGM and then carry on with the usual business of the meeting.
Everyone with the exception of Marie Skinner is standing for re-election. For those of you who are new, Marie was the board chair until her trip to Kenya. At this time Jenny took over as the acting chair. This means that there is one vacant position on the board of directors. If anyone is interested in joining the board, please give Jenny at call at 250-871-0553.
Something to be aware of is that the CV Senior Peer Counselling board is a ‘working’ board. This means that as a member of the board you take an active part in the administration and management of the society, duties that are delegated to an executive director when the board is a governance by policy board. When, for example, the society operated without a program coordinator earlier this year, it was members of the board who stepped in and made certain the society continued to operate. The society is stable right now and will remain this way for the foreseeable future and so the work of our board should not be onerous or difficult. What is different though from other boards you may have been on is that I, as the program manager, often consult with the board before I make a decision about something. We work as a team and I feel strongly that this approach is healthy, respectful and representative of the values of the society – seniors helping seniors.
As with any board you are required to attend a monthly board meeting.
In summary then:
1) There is one vacant spot on the board.
2)Phone Jenny if you are interested.
3)Members of the board executive who wish to remain in their roles are: Jenny (Chair), Anne Lawrie (Secretary), Anne Norgaard (Treasurer). Other members of the board wishing to stay on include: George Dey, Vic Crisp, Carol Taylor, Kate Ramsey, Lorraine Kendall.
4)There is one board executive position vacant – Vice Chair. This position can be decided by the newly reinstated/elected board at the March 11th meeting.
5)You have to have paid your membership fee of $10 in order to be eligible to vote. We will take the first 10 minutes of the March 11th meeting to allow for this to happen in case some of you have not paid yet. If $10 is too much for anyone, pay what you can.
Take care everyone,
Pam
